Many of my friends has Virus in their USB drives. The Virus will cause they can't open the drive direct but  only can type the drive letter to open. Here is the Windows Batch Script I wrote to kill this sticky virus, REMEMBER to change  the drive letter (In my case, it was G: Drive, so change all G: to fit yours)......

Create a text File with extension name .BAT which is a executable batch script in Windows.

For exmaple, I create a file called Kill_AutoRun.bat

in the file, copy and past all the code below:

@echo off
attrib -r -h -s -a G:/*.*
del /f/s/q/a G:/autorun.inf
del /f/s/q/a G:/RECYCLER/*.*
del /f/s/q/a G:/RECYCLER
taskkill /F /im explorer.exe
explorer.exe G:/

Again, change the drive letter G: if your USB drive is not assigned as G:

Then save the file and double click on it to run. It should kill the possible virus.

Hi there

I have a major problem. Yesterday, I was using my 4GB Verbatim flash stick perfectly. I had nearly 3.5GB of information stored on the stick - from the last 2-3 months.

I recently scanned my USB flash stick , using, Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise ver. 8.7i and it picked up the following in its log

D:RESTORES-1-5-21-1482476501-1644491937-682003330-1013dark.exe W32/Sdbot.worm.gen.ax (Virus)

Now when I plug in my USB flash stick into any computer, it comes up with error
“…USB attached to the computer has malfunctioned….” and now I can’t see the contents of my USB at all - as it’s not visible in My Computer on any computer.

Has my USB crashed as a result of this worm, OR is the very important information retrievable?

Please help.

Regards

Deon

Hi Deon,
you may try to plug that USB drive to other computer to see it works on others computer first. ( Of course make sure the computer you will try had the anti-virus software up-to-date)

It the problem doesn't repeat on other computer, you could the following:
Go to Device manager in Control Panel ( I assume you are using Windows XP):
If you see any device has "Unknow" with Question mark icon, try uninstall all of them.
Then reboot your PC.
If the problem still there, try uninstall those Plus uninstall all the USB Controller there in device manager, then doing a restart should help to solve it.

Let me know if it works or not

Hi, Sanlin, I am not sure if you have the foundation of programming or not. If no, I advise you to take some courses of C or C Plus Plus first before you can self-study well.
If you do, since I am only work on C plus plus , C#, and Java. ( Most of time, C#), I recommend you to buy some book on Amazon. Books from Publisher Wiley is the one I recommend for beginner, if you to go for advance level, you can choose some books from publisher Wrox. Hope these limited information I provide will help you!
